Invite with replaces equivalent in H323

Post by rethish »

Hi,
Is there an equivalent in H323 for the SIP Invite with replaces. ie; a new call can replace an existing call.

I understand that the Facility message provides a provision to route call to MC, which is similar to a refer message in SIP. But I need a way by which I can replace a call b/w A, B with a call b/w A,C by initiating a call or by means or any other message from C or B

Thanks in advance

Do you want to do a call transfer? That is, H.450.2?

Yeah, My goal is Call Transfer.
Call transfer as per H.450.2 is not widely implemented, Only the basic facility message as in H.225 is supported is supported by most third parties.
So, as I mentioned before is there some mechanism which can achieve call transfer without the H.450.2 Call Transfer being supported?

Rethish,

There's the Facility message of Q.931, but that one isn't going to accomplish your whole scenario and isn't that widely used either. It is even dangerous to use as there are endpoints out there who will crash if you send them such a Facility message.
Other than that and H.450.2, the only solution that will work is doing it on the gatekeeper side and working with it in H.245 routed mode, where all signaling passes through the gatekeeper.

Thanks Tsahi & Paul for the clarification.
I guess this rules out using the Facility message also.

Is there a mechanism using the releasecomplete message by which I can tell the peer to dial out to a new destination? something like the deprecated SIP BYE/Also mechanism

Rethish,

Sorry, but I don't know of any such way that will work for you with third party endpoints...
