Windows & Mac encryption

Post by jdbrugman »

Hi,

I've got two desktops. A Windows 7 Pro and an iMac with Snow Leopard. Both desktops have the latest updates and they have different locations.
I want to encrypt some personal files and store those files in Dropbox. I did a search on this forum for "Encrypt on windows and decrypt on mac" but I've got the message that the query was ignored because they are too common words.
So my question is if it is possible to encrypt a file on my Windows desktop and decrypt it on my Mac.

That's definitely possible. The Mac software and Windows software share the same file format. The tools have a different user interface, but the underlying file format is exactly the same. This is also true for the Linux and Java code. It should be possible to encrypt on any platform and decrypt on any other platform.
