AESCrypt Version 0

Post by iains »

Hi,

As a benchmark for a project i'm in the process of, I was wondering if anyone still has a copy of AESCrypt that handles just Version 0 files.

Preferably Windows if possible

Cheers, Iain

Lain,

The files are "hidden" on the site. The AES Crypt that handled v0 files is here:
https://www.aescrypt.com/download/v1/aescrypt10.tar.gz (Linux)
https://www.aescrypt.com/download/v1/AESCrypt12.zip (Windows)
https://www.aescrypt.com/download/v1/AESCrypt.zip (Windows Source)

Note that the installer used with the older versions had some issues (or perhaps I just had issues) trying to get the shell extension to properly unload from the Windows shell. So the install directory would be left, even after rebooting. To properly clean up, you have to uninstall, reboot, then go delete the Program Files\AESCrypt directory.

We use the Microsoft installer now, so we don't have that issue. To this day I do not know what the magic trick is, but it's not a change we made in the AES Crypt code itself, I don't believe. I think it's just a difference in how the installer works.
