How to get AESCrypt working on Mac OS 10.6.8?

I have Mac OSX version 10.6.8 on my Mac. I downloaded and installed two versions of AES crypt for Mac (AESCrypt_x86.pkg and AESCrypt_ppc.pkg n.b. one version at a time: they were installed sequentially and the first one removed, I concluded the x86 version should be the correct one).

The padlock AESCrypt icon sits on the Mac dock as I dragged it there from the Applications folder.

When I drag a document onto the AESCrypt padlock icon on the dock to be encrypted, the icon does not allow the document to be dropped onto it so the document goes back to where it came from - I could not encrypt the document.

How do I get the application to function properly on my Mac?
