few software questions

Post by andrewjs18 »

first, thanks for the software!

I have a few questions that I hope you don't mind me asking.

1- is there any plans for aes crypt to allow folders and its contents to be encrypted rather than just files?

2- is there any plans for aes crypt to securely delete the original file being encrypted? I really enjoy this feature with axcrypt, and it's why I haven't fully switched over to aes crypt yet.

thanks!

There are no plans for zipping and encrypting folders. The reason is that zip tools do that already. To allow for that would mean AES Crypt needs to support a ton of archiving formats.

Secure delete is under consideration, but not highly likely. For that, we encounter the same issue. There are already tools that do that, why why another? Note also that AES Crypt never deletes anything.

There are also technical challenges to secure erase. On some solid state drives, flash drives, etc, erasing actually doesn't erase. So, it would only provide a false sense of security.
