Encryption fails with Mac using Maverick

I am feeling quite foolish, but here's my problem. I downloaded the Mac GUI package for current machines [twice to be certain it isn't a download issue] and moved the padlock icon to the Tray.
When I drag and drop a file on the icon I am asked for a password which I provide, I click CONTINUE and the "Continue" window disappears but nothing happens.... There is no file created with the .aes suffix and the unencrypted file remains as it was.
Wassup? I can't imagine what is going wrong, can you help me?
